When a DAT is discontinued in DatVault you can choose to remove it from the UI. This process removes the JSON file and renames the existing DAT to have a .old suffix. From here, if you click the trash can icon to delete old DATs then these old dats are deleted but the empty folders remain. These empty folders serve no purpose in the DatRoot and should be deleted as well.
